[Data] 70% of violent crimes committed by the radical right-wing go unpunished in Lyon

Since the early 2010s, the city of Lyon has regularly been subjected to violence from radical right-wing extremists, to the point that the metropolitan area has earned a sad reputation as the “capital of the far right.” And this reputation is well deserved.

Rue89Lyon has conducted an unprecedented inventory of attacks, assaults, and hateful acts committed by the radical far right in Lyon between 2010 and 2025. In total, we have recorded 102 such incidents over this period.

This inventory reflects the violence that has been unleashed on the metropolitan area, particularly on progressive activists and minority groups (racialized or LGBTI). This violence has not been curbed by the authorities.

We have meticulously researched each case to find out what legal action was taken in response to these acts. The results are clear: in 70% of the cases we recorded, no criminal or police action was taken. What types of victims? What locations were targeted? What legal action was taken?
